Kids, technology and the GPS finder
Anyone have kids? Fear of losing them?
Last year, my wife and I were at Macys in the Mall of America. We have twin boys, Griffin and Gavin. At the time they were 5. We were taking our time walking down an aisle/major route and Griffin and Gavin were running about a hundred feet in front of us, and then coming back. It was a slow night at Macys and we could see them the entire route, until…
Gavin took a little turn. We didnt think a whole lot about it for a few seconds and then we couldnt find him. We did find him, but it scared the hell out of us. And, I should add the staff at Macys was amazing. They had all exit doors secured within minutes. If you are wondering, Gavin had decided to hide. He was about 15 feet from were he took that turn, hiding under a clothes rack. It took about 15, endless minutes, to find him.
Now, and I should add its about time, the GPS devices in cell phones can be tracked, by non CIA types. Now do we want our 5 year olds running around with cells? Its an interesting question. Just a few years ago i would have said its completely insane. But now we dont have a home phone. If my wife and I go out our babysitter needs her cell to be able to call us, or 911, for emergencies. Its cheaper now to have 2 $10/month cells (one add on line for each of our kids) than it is to pay Qwest for a landline.
And if I can track my kids, well, Im all for it.
