Off the beaten path - Virtual Tennis

A few things have changed in my life recently (enough). One of them is my interest in tennis. Its really the first sport I have enjoyed to the degree that I do. And, looking forward, its also a sport I can play as I get older.

By the way, I did play tennis on Monday with a group of volunteers for the Minneapolis Inner City Tennis Kidspeed program, most of which are retirement age. Well, they kicked my butt! So, when I finally retire, I hope to be good too.

Anyway, in addition to tennis as a new interest, so is video games. My kids have fun playing video games, and what can I say, I do too.

So… one of the higher rated video games, that is said to revolutionize the tennis video game will be out soon. Virtual Tennis 3. Will we buy it? Not sure, but Sega, if you are reading this, we will gladly post a review if you provide a demo.

You should try tennis on the nintendo Wii.
I played it at my friend’s house a while ago.
It includes simple tennis game with the system which is just ok (but challenging.) There is an actual stand alone tennis game that is much more ‘real’ that is out now. You actually swing your hand around the Wiimote like a tennis racket which works similar to the real thing because the controller is an actual motion capture device (vs just pushing buttons on a controller.)

I’ve played sega’s tennis on xbox a few years back and I prefer PONG or brickout. I’ve played Mario Tennis, which is more fun– it was too complex for me to bother figuring out just to play what still is essentially PONG. Face it, tennis video games are just glorified PONG except for on this new nintendo.

I will say that I’ve never been big on sports video games, especially tennis and football but I was an avid gamer for about 20 years.

You need to check out the nintendo Wii. If I had the time I’d be getting a lot of exercise on that this winter.
