Tennis in Minneapolis, or lack thereof in public parks

I read a little thing over at the strib about how Minneapolis is spending some money.

Apparently the City of Minneapolis is planning on spend a ton of money on Parade Stadium. Folks, I havent been to Parade since I was about 14 and played hockey. Its a nice little facility but does it really have that much impact on community? Which is essentially what Maryl Werner is saying.

Maryl points out that the tennis court surfaces at many of the public courts is poor, and I have to agree. Being a newer tennis player in Minneapolis I have sampled quite a few of the southwest area public courts. Big different between each location. And the practice boards, well, I havent found one that is in good shape.

Also, city folks, it would be great if we could expand some of the indoor places. Try and get a court time in the winter! Forget it. I play, on occasion, at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center, but like I said, its tough to get in during the winter, and a little cost prohibitive in my opinion. That said, tennis appears to be a popular sport for all ages in the Twin Cities. Anything we can do to improve and add more courts would be appreciated from many of us.
